At one point, we actually thought about running a track through the wall of the train room into the basement utility area to the right of the picture. In effect, the train would disappear, make a loop in the utility area and return to the main layout.

 

Since not all ideas are practical, (and some are downright absurd!) Phyl came up with the  idea of creating an illusion.The track and train between the hill (right) and the distant city (left), goes right up to the wall. It looks as if the train is coming from someplace, but it isn't.The city itself is basically a montage of building pictures, some from old H.O magazines, and some from the ‘Net.
