Both sets of my grandparents lived in Georgia. Daddy's daddy also loved to entertain the grandchildren, and anyone else who would listen. He sang soulful hymns and blues. and his instrument of choice was the banjo. He told us that he used to occasionally play live on a radio for fun. He was so animated when he sang his silliest songs for all the kids. One of our favorites was "Possum Hunt" which seemed to change a little each time he sang it. In addition to the regular Southern songs about the Okefenokee Swamp, the railroad and such, he sang a few that Ihave had problems researching. Maybe you will know of them? Here are some lyrics:
See “B Page - BULLDOG: Bull dog on the bank and the bull frog in the pool.
The bull dog called the bull frog, a green-eyed water fool.
The bull dog jumped to catch him but a snapper caught his paw.
That pollywog died laughing, to see him work his jaw.....
See “O” page - ONCE I HAD AN OLD COON DOG, also KICKING MULE on “K” page
Somebody stole my old coon
dog. Ain't gonna bring him back. He ran the big coons over the fence and
the little ones through the cracks. Poor boy a hundred miles from home.
???????, ???????, and he ain't never coming back.
See “S” page - SADIE & Her Wooden Leg -request
SEE “T” PAGE - TURKEY IN THE STRAW VERSES: Saw Mr. catfish
swimming down the stream, asked Mr. catfish what do you mean? Grabbed
that catfish by the tail, swung that catfish 'round the rail. 4) A song
about Sadie who had a wooden leg and she greased her wooden leg every
day ?
There were more songs but that is all I can think of right now. I am
hoping you have run across some of them!
A: Ed. Note: Thank you so much for your delightful letter! You would probably enjoy browsing through this site <http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/aitch/songs/songs.html>
It contains a replica of a Golden Book of Favourite Songs from 1915. I had hoped that we could come up with lyrics to all your requests, but can't find anything about Sadie and Her Wooden Leg. We'll post all this when we do the next update to the Song Swap page, and perhaps someone will come up with the lyrics. Enjoy!

From Joy: Thank you! I love the 1915 Golden Book of Songs and I've shared the link with my sister. We are having fun perusing it! I've remembered some other old songs that Grandaddy used to sing after looking through the lyrics.
Again, thanks!
