From: Elizabeth F: Someone wanted the words to the song STARS ARE THE WINDOWS OF HEAVEN
Stars are the windows of heaven
Where angels peek through.
Up in the sky they keep an eye
On kids like me and you.
They cry each time we are naughty;
Their tear drops are the rains.
But when we're good they are happy,
And then they shine again.
My Mom said, "Stars are the windows of Heaven
Where angels peek through".
My granddaughter and I sing this each night and add "and Grandad" right after the last "angels".
From John D (who adds a whole new introductory verse):
Many months ago now I sent you the words to "Stars are the Windows of Heaven" in response to a "lost" from "Karen J" They weren't printed, (email may be in space somewhere between Australia and you — but I have just checked and you have two sets of words for the song. However there is an opening verse prior to those printed. The song goes as follows:
Two little kids, watching the sky, one of them said, I wonder why,
All of the stars are shining so bright, when there wasn't a star last night
I've often wondered, what is a star, the other one said - here's what they are.
Stars are the windows of heaven, that Angels peek through,
Up in the sky they keep an eye, on kids like me and you
They cry each time we are naughty, their tear drops are the rain,
But when we're good they keep smiling and they shine again,
Stars are the windows of heaven - that Angels peek through.
It would be great if Karen was alerted to the additional words.
Regards, John D.
(Ed. Note: Our apologies to John, and thank you for this version. Your lyrics are probably still floating around somewhere in email never-never land.)
(THE) STATES SONG — any more verses out there?
From J. M. I remember parts of a silly song I would like to share with grandchildren. Do you know where I could find the words to a song (or it may be a marching cadence chant) that includes such questions/answers as:
What did Tenne see, boys - what did Tenne see
Saw what Arkansas, boys, that's what she did see.
What did Mississip pi - Sipped up Minne a sota (soda)
Why did Califon ya - Just phoned to say Ha wa i (How are you)
Where has Ore gone - Gone to pay her Texas (taxes)
What did Dela ware - Wore her brand New Jersey.
I'd be most appreciative if you can tell me the name and lyrics of this "silly song."
Ed. Note: We used to sing that to the tune of "The Farmer In The Dell." Here are a few other verses that I know:
Where has Oregon. . .I don't know but Al-aska
What did Io-wa . . .She weighed a Washing-ton
What did Ohi- (h)o . . .She hoed what Ida- ho(ed)
From: Bill J. (About) the State Song: An 'official' version of sorts was recorded by Perry Como sometime in the mid Sixties under the name " Delaware ".
