[2007] From: Susie G: G'day from 'Down Under'.......Mum used to sing a funny little
ditty to me and it would be great if someone out there could throw some light on its origins or if there are more verses? Thanks, Susie G. Mansfield, Victoria, Australia.
Since poor father joined the San-it-tor-ium, ours is a happy little home,
he'd wake us up, in the middle of the night,
and tell us all, to 'be prepared to fight'.
he'd put poor Mother in the dust-bin, to stand on sentry-guard,
there'd be me and brother John, with our little night-shirts on,
patrolling 'round the old back yard. . .
SCHOOL DAYS
Request from Connie (see "A" page for other questions from her)
School days, school days,
Dear old golden rule days.
'Readin' and 'ritin' and 'rithmetic,
Taught to the tune of a hick'ry stick.
You were my queen in calico,
I was your bashful barefoot beau,
And you wrote on my slate,
'I love you, Joe,'
When we were a couple of kids.
SCRATCH, SCRATCH, ITCH, ITCH or I GOT CHICKEN POX FOR CHRISTMAS
From Peggy L. I just discovered your site. I could spend hours on it! I have been looking for the lyrics to a Christmas song for kids. I have some of the words. It starts:
Scratch, scratch.
Itch, Itch
Golly Gee.
I'm as sad as I can be.
Jimmy got an electric train.
Johnny got an aeroplane.
It's only natural I complain,
I got the chicken pox for Christmas!
I was gay and full of glee
Then came this awful tragedy.
Everything seems to happen to me.
I got the Chicken Pox for Christmas!
..................................Any help with the rest??????
thanks, Peggy L.
From Anne K., librarian: Hello, I have words for you for "Chicken pox for Christmas," which your site says you'd like words for. I took them off of a CD called "Children's novelty dances" produced by Kimbo Educational. No author is listed, so it's a mystery to me where the song comes from.
Note: Here are the missing verses. Many thanks, Anne!
No fun, no games, no friends, no joys
I can't even play with my Christmas toys
Christmas Day is not so hot
When you're covered all over with big red spots
Santa tried the best he could
To give me the gifts he thought he should
Just when I tried to be so good
I got the chicken pox for Christmas.
